Melbourne’s longest cake!
On 25th March 2007, you and your cleints can witness history in the making as the final touches on Melbourne’s longest cake will be completed and displayed along the Yarra, riverside at Crown.
Measuring more than 200 metres long, this culinary feat is part of the 15th Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, one of the world’s largest food and wine festivals. Sales and sponsorship of the cake will raise money for people affected by cerebral palsy.
Created by a team of Crown chefs headed by Oliver Von Brunn, Executive Chef, Banquet Operations and Tim Clark, Executive Pastry Chef at Crown, together with TAFE catering students, the historic cake will have the following ingredients:
** 500 kg light oil Icing;
** 500 kg brown sugar;
** 92 kg unsalted butter;
** 300 kg eggs (whole);
** 240 kg cream cheese;
** 1080 kg carrots (grated);
** 4 kg lemon zest;
** 750 kg self raising flour;
** 720 kg icing sugar;
** 4 kg bicarbonate soda;
** 24 kg mixed spices.
Organisations can sponsor metre-long slices of history and have their corporate logo decorated on the cake and members of the public can also indulge their sweet tooth and enjoy a slice of Melbourne’s longest cake with coffee, tea or a drink at $10. The event will be hosted by radio and television personality Shaun Micallef and entertainment will come courtesy of performers with a disability.
All proceeds will go to the Cerebral Palsy Support Network and Solve! at Royal Children’s Hospital, to provide support, information and research.
