Melia Hotels International has announced two new additions to its portfolio in Malaysia.

The Melia Iskandar Malaysia and INNSIDE Iskandar will be adjacent properties within a multi-use development in the southern state of Johor.

The five-star Melia Iskandar Malaysia will feature 450 rooms and the four-star INNSIDE Iskandar Johor will have 350 rooms.

Together, the hotels will house restaurants, a lounge, spa, a fitness centre and swimming pool, alongside a new convention centre and shopping at Iskandar City Square.

"Southeast Asia has enormous potential for the international hotel industry, especially for a company such as Melia Hotels International, with its 30-year history on the continent," said Gabriel Escarrer, CEO of Meli Hotels.

"The signature of the two new hotels in Malaysia further strengthens our commitment to a region in which we have quadrupled our portfolio in the past few years."

Melia entered the Malaysia market in 1990 with the Melia Kuala Lumpur and has a portfolio of 28 hotels open or under development in Asia Pacific.
