Merlin touts Minecraft themed attractions
Block building fanatics will be able to get a real world fix of Minecrafting within the next couple of years.
Minecraft owner Microsoft has inked a deal with Merlin Entertainments to build Minecraft themed attractions in the US and UK.
Merlin will invest more than $110 million in the attractions.
The UK is slated to open by 2026 with a US attraction the following year.
The attractions will be an addition to an existing theme park or as new standalone city center attractions.
Merlin operates 135 attractions and theme parks in 23 countries.
These include including amusement and entertainment brands such as Legoland and Madame Tussauds.
Microsoft and Merlin hope to expand their partnership with other Minecraft facilities in other countries.
“We are everywhere digitally, Merlin is everywhere physically,” said Kayleen Walters, VP, franchise development, for gaming at Microsoft.
“It is about how do we expand Minecraft beyond the game. Merlin are the experts on location-based experiences; it is a shared vision.”
A Minecraft movie is coming next year and Netflix plans to produce a Minecraft animated series.
Minecraft is the bestselling video computer game of all time and still racks up about 140 million users every per month
