Tuesday, 12 Aug, 2010 0

Mexicana Airlines has temporarily reinstated its flights between Mexico City and Gatwick for this week having announced the suspension of the service on Monday.

The flights, coded 1594 and 1595, along with others between Mexico City and Madrid, are now listed as ‘reactivated’ on the troubled airline’s website, though many other routes remain suspended.

But Mexicana’s UK reservations staff said Gatwick flights were scheduled for Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 only.

The Oneworld member filed bankruptcy proceedings in Mexico and the US last week.

In a statement on Monday it said the Gatwick route and others were dropped “due to a series of events that have strangled cash flow” including IATA’s decision to suspend its BSP sales channel.

But is said that it was “determined to make an effort to continue operating” and was still hooping to reach an agreement with union leaders to gain “additional resources”.

It had been previously been in talks over the possibility of reducing staff wages by around 40% .

The airline’s bankruptcy petition listed debt of more than $1 billion.
