Michael Portillo to support Egypt at WTM
Former Cabinet Minister and deputy Conservative Party leader Michael Portillo will endorse Egypt at World Travel Market next week.
Portillo, who is now a well-respected TV presenter and traveller, will join senior delegates from the Egyptian Tourism Authority at a press conference on Monday, November 7, before visiting the stand, AF500, from 1pm.
The ETA wants to get the message across that the destination is open for business and that ‘2017 will be a year of major growth and recovery’.
Egypt wants the UK Government to reinstate flights to Sharm el Sheikh. Flights from the UK to the Red Sea hot spot were suspended on November 4 2015 following the downing of a Russian airline.
Flights to Sharm el Sheikh resumed from Germany on October 2 and Belgium’s Jetairfly restarted flights to the resort on Sunday, October 30.
Since leaving politics in 2005, Portillo has become a presenter of travelogue programmes for the BBC, including the Great British Railway Journeys and Great Continental Railway Journeys series.
He remains a commentator on politics and has a weekly slot on the late-night BBC political show This Week.
He will be at the press conference to chat about his memories and love of Egypt.
