Microtels’ surprising perks help spur growth

Friday, 28 Nov, 2006 0

Microtels, which already has 19 budget properties in Georgia, is bullish on the state: seven other outlets are planned by this fall.

Atlanta-based U.S. Franchise Systems Inc. is the parent company and franchiser.

U.S. Franchise Systems’ international expansion includes hotels open or under construction in Africa, Argentina, Canada, Honduras, Israel, Mexico and the Philippines. There are 293 Microtel hotels worldwide.

Microtel’s growth is based on all-new, interior corridor hotels with low room rates and some surprising perks, such as free local and continental long-distance calls and free wireless high-speed Internet, according to the chain.

In Georgia, Microtel has focused on growing near military bases and universities, such as Warner Robins Air Force Base and Kennesaw State University.

All Microtel hotels are independently owned and operated. Seventy-five percent of Microtel franchisees have never owned a hotel before, according to the company.
