Mid-2008 launch date set for Amadeus UK rail booking tool
Amadeus plans to pilot its new UK rail booking tool in the first quarter of next year with a full launch in the middle of the year.
The GDS has a team of 50 full-time developers working on the booking and ticketing technology, which will provide a replacement for the Elgar system.
The rail booking solution will be integrated into the Amadeus Selling Platform to save agents’ time.
UK marketing director Elaine Seeto said: “Business travel agencies have teams dedicated to rail because it is a complicated process and we’re looking to take away that complexity.”
The technology is expected to form the basis of Amadeus rail distribution platform for European and global rail bookings in the future.
Amadeus has also developed a system to enable business travel agents to book Purple Parking through its front-office reservation system from next month.
According to Seeto the technology will enable the business travel community to book airport parking in three steps.
Passenger details will be automatically downloaded to the Purple Parking booking screen to save time and the technology is also integrated with back-office accounting systems.
The GDS has also appointed Richard Kelly as its new head of business development. Kelly, who formerly held roles with Galileo and Cornerstone, will be responsible for third party relationships and working across sales and marketing to find new opportunities for the technology giant.
