Mid-air aircraft collision narrowly averted
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal suspended three air traffic control employees after a mid-air collision of two aircraft was narrowly averted.
A Nepal Airlines aircraft came close to an Air India jet.
The planes’ warning systems licked in as they neared each other, with pilots averting danger.
The suspensions were for ‘carelessness’ local news media reported.
The Air India aircraft was on a descent at 19,000 ft and the Nepal Airlines flight was at 15,000 ft in the same area.
The Nepal Airlines aircraft dropped to 7,000 ft to avoid a potential collision.
Nepal’s air regulator is conducting a full investigation.
