Minor eyes Australia, NZ for Anantara brand

Thailand-based Minor International, fresh from its takeover of the Oaks Hotels and Resorts Group, is looking for opportunities to introduce its upscale Anantara brand into Australia.

Dillip Rajakarier, COO of the Minor Hotel Group, said the group is targeting further development in Australia because of the country’s “strong business framework and stability when compared to Thailand”.

“We have been too Thailand-centric and need to diversify into new destinations,” Rajakarier said.

“We were very excited to do the Oaks deal (38 serviced apartment hotels in Australia and New Zealand) in spite of all the issues with the Oaks board.

“Oaks is a strong brand in the domestic market and by 2015 we hope to have 50 Oaks branded properties in the region.”

Rajakarier said Minor would like to bring the Anantara brand into Australia and New Zealand and is currently studying suitable destinations and properties.

Minor is also launching a four-star brand in the next few weeks.
