Miss USA named as Carnival Vista godmother

Miss USA Deshauna Barber has been named as godmother for Carnival Vista.

Barber is the first military woman to take the Miss USA crown and will christen the ship next month when it arrives in the US.

"Deshauna is the ideal candidate to serve as Carnival Vista’s godmother, embodying the spirit of commitment and sacrifice to those who protect our freedom each and every day," said Christine Duffy, Carnival Cruise Line president.

"Carnival is a longtime supporter of the military carrying more active and retired Armed Forces personnel than any other cruise line so it’s our honor and privilege to have Deshauna serve as the godmother to our newest and largest ship."

The christening ceremony forms part of a gala event including an invitation-only concert by multiple Grammy-award winning country music star Carrie Underwood.

The ship heads to the US from Europe next month and after a brief stint at New York, repositions to Miami for year-round Caribbean sailings.
