Mixing business with pleasure increasingly popular

Tuesday, 07 Oct, 2004 0

Business travellers are increasingly being encouraged to take their partners away with them, according to a report in The Times.

The newspaper’s business travel section today reports that more and more companies are allowing staff to “mix business with pleasure” as long as they stay within budget – something that has become increasingly possible with the advent of no-frills carriers.

Mike Platt, of the business travel agency BTI UK, is quoted as saying: “There is a clear business travel market and a clear leisure market but blending the two is increasing in popularity.

Some employers recognise that hard-pressed staff deserve a reward.”

He reportedly added: “The biggest fallacy among business travellers is that they have to book cheap deals themselves on the web. We expect to issue 68,000 tickets on low-cost carriers this year. By booking through us, companies keep track of where their staff are and how much trips cost.”
