Mobile-phone initiative by lastminute.com
Lastminute.com has launched a mobile phone–enabled website that allows users to view restaurants in their locale and book instantly.
Fonefood gives mobile phone users in 12 countries access to and descriptions of more than 6,000 restaurants, with accompanying Google maps, and entices them with deals and promotions.
These 12 countries are the UK, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The site is still in its beta stage, meaning it has been designed specifically to get feedback from users which will then be used in the development of the technology.
Handily for those in a country whose language they have not yet mastered, once users have chosen a restaurant, there is no need to call it. The technology allows the users to book for free using their mobile and receive an instant SMS text confirming the booking.
Those wishing to use the service should go to http://m.lastminute.com/fonefood on their mobile handsets. Alternatively users can text fonefood to 85959 to get the link free of charge (only in the UK).
