More drama for OzJet
Reports today suggest that fledgling business class airline OzJet is having more trouble than just a lack of patronage. The SMH suggests that the cancellation of two flights last week was due to mechanical trouble and not just empty seats as stated by its owner , Paul Stoddardt.
The launch has hardly been smooth with flights cancelled, planes half full, late departures, revised schedules and now “festive fares”, a pricing strategy that looks for all the world like panic inside the first month of operation.
In a bid to draw more passengers, OzJet has cut its standard one-way fares from $325 to $249 until the end of January. Having previously stated it only needed to fill 50 per cent of its seats to break even, based on the $325 air fare, and operating at a conservative 40% capacity, someone will be nervous.
