More flights, new airport boost Mauritius
A Mauritius roadshow has been busy in three cities in Australia this week, building on the launch of a third weekly Air Mauritius flight from Perth.
Joining the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) on the roadshow to Perth, Sydney and Melbourne were major hotels, including Sun Resorts, Le Meridien, Sofitel, Veranda Resorts, LUX Resorts, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Solis Indian Ocean.
Amrita Craig, of MTPA’s Port Louis office, said that the third weekly Air Mauritius flight offered travellers more flexibility with available package tours ranging from four to 13 days.
Other incentives, she said, are an Air Mauritius baggage allowance of 30kg, plus free carriage of golf clubs, daylight flights and the option of a stopover in Mauritius while en route to South Africa, UK or France.
Air Mauritius has a code-share with Air France which incorporates fares to regional French cities as well as other destinations in Europe.
A new airport, with A380 capability, is scheduled to open in Mauritius in October this year.
Alison Roberts-Brown, Sydney-based MTPA regional director, said the extra flights and the new hotels on the island opened up many more options for the MICE market.
