Move to cut airport check-in misery
Gatwick Airport is trialling a queue-busting scheme that will enable passengers to check in for short haul flights a day early.
Thomas Cook Airlines, MyTravel, Thomson Fly and Excel Airways have all signed up for the project that launched earlier today and will operate until September.
The move is designed to ease congestion at the airport during the notoriously busy peak summer months.
Dedicated desks will be set aside for early check-in, ensuring passengers departing the following day will not be clogging up queues for that day’s travel.
Thomas Cook Airlines Gatwick manager Maggie Kennedy said: “As well as reducing queues it will help many of our passengers who stay overnight at Gatwick. They will be able to go straight to the departure lounge on the day of travel.”
The move is expected to become year-round if the four-month trail is a success.
