Movenpick on the move in Vietnam
HANOI – Movenpick Hotels and Resorts is making its mark in Vietnam with the upgrade of its properties in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Movenpick Hotel Saigon, located close to the Ho Chi Minh International Airport and the city’s new E-Town business cluster, will begin a major refurbishment of rooms and public areas next month.
The renovations, including outdoor pool areas and banqueting facilities, will be completed by the end of the year.
The hotel, which in a previous life was the headquarters of the US Air Force in Vietnam, is owned by Vina Capital (70 percent) and the Youth Communist Party (30 percent).
Movenpick Hotel Saigon includes a small casino, open only for foreign guests, and will target the MICE market with its upgraded meetings facilities.
In Hanoi, Movenpick – the Swiss hotel management group – has almost completed a US$9 million renovation after closing the hotel for five months.
“Gaining a foothold in Vietnam’s largest city will undoubtedly help us to consolidate the presence of our brand in the region,†said Andreas Mattmüller, senior vice president Middle East & Asia Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts
In a salute to the Swiss heritage of its managers, the 154-room Mövenpick Hotel Hanoi serves traditional Rösti specialties and includes an integrated wine cellar in Lounge 83. Mangosteen, the all-day dining venue, features an open kitchen.
Four multi-functional conference rooms for between 10 and 110 persons complete the range of services geared to business travellers.
