Moxy to make Australia debut in Melbourne
Marriott International is to debut its Moxy lifestyle brand in Australia in 2021.
It announced the signing of Moxy Melbourne South Yarra, a new build 180-room property.
It will have a contemporary design with a rooftop bar, co-working space, gym and meeting studio.
The millennial-focused lifestyle brand will be a ‘game-changer’ for the Melbourne market, says Richard Crawford, Marriott’s senior director of hotel development, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific.
"Demand for bespoke lifestyle hotels is growing, fuelled predominantly by the growing number of millennial and Gen Z travellers."
It is located in the heart of Melbourne’s vibrant South Yarra district which is a short walk to the Chapel Street shopping and entertainment strip.
Sean Hunt, Marriott’s area vice president, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, said: "Moxy is the perfect fit for the curious and adventurous, and I’m thrilled we’ve found the right location and partners to bring this brand to Australia."
The company is collaborating with Melbourne businessmen Hector Ktori and Peter Arvanitis.
Marriott has opened 30 Moxy hotels in Europe, North America and Asia and has more than 80 in the development pipeline.
