Myanmar operator salutes tourism boom
YANGON – Tourism in Myanmar is flourishing, say tour operators.
“The past three months have been quite exceptional,†said Asian Trails managing director in Myanmar, Thomas Carnevale.
“The tourism industry is prospering again and we could call it a boom regarding the number of tourist arrivals.
“January and February witnessed for the first time in years some hotels being sold out as well as fully booked flights on the main tourist circuits.â€
The destination – which is shunned by some operators who are concerned about the link between hotels and resorts and the Myanmar’s military junta – will be further boosted by the decision by Vietnam Airlines to launch a four times weekly flight from Yangon to Hanoi.
Vietnam Airlines is the first international airline to start new flights out of Myanmar since 2007.
