Monday, 27 Jan, 2015 0

The Myanmar Tourism Federation has inked a deal with US marketing firm Solimar International to attract more tourist visits from North America.

The two parties have agreed a three-year contract which is the first time Myanmar has entered into an agreement with a marketing agency to promote the country.

Chair of Myanmar Tourism Marketing U Phyoe Wai Yar Zar said Solimar has already opened an office in Washington DC to work with the media and tourism industry stakeholders.

"We believe the number of tourists coming from the United States and Canada will gradually increase as a result of the agreement," he said.

Solimar said in a statement its remit is to help attract high-value and low-impact tourists to help support Myanmar’s sustainability goals.

The minister for hotels and tourism U Htay Aung called the agreement a "milestone in the history of Myanmar tourism".
