Mystery over death of mother and daughter in Bali
Investigations are continuing into the deaths of a mother and daughter who died within hours of arriving on holiday in Bali.
Indonesian authorities have still to carry out an autopsy but reports are circulating that it could have been a reaction to a fish meal they had eaten.
Noelene Bischoff, 54, and her 14 year-old daughter Yvana, from Queensland, Australia, had booked into the Padang Bai Beach Resort in the Karangasem district before setting off for a meal.
There were no immediate reports of anyone else who was staying at the resort falling ill.
Mrs Bischoff’s brother-in-law, Kevin Bowe, has told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that a government report suggested mother and daughter had died from eating fish in Ubud.
Five hours after they returned to the hotel after a meal out, Yvana was begging security staff for help but both her and her mother died in ambulances on the way to the separate clinics on Saturday morning.
The manager of the restaurant in Ubud has denied that the food served there was to blame for the deaths, telling the broadcaster that the restaurant was full of clients eating similar dishes.
It is believed it could have been a food allergy.
