MyTravel boss to take over FTO reins
The International Federation of Tour Operators (IFTO) and Federation of Tour Operators (FTO) has announced that MyTravel’s Andrew Cooper will take over from Alan Flook as director general at the end of June.
Mr Flook is retiring after 26 years in the role. His successor, Mr Cooper, will leave his current post as head of legal services at MyTravel UK.
Mr Cooper denied he was leaving MyTravel because of the company’s present difficulties. He told TravelMole: “This really is my dream job. I have been at MyTravel 14 years, but am a lawyer by background. There aren’t that many jobs where I can still be a tour operator and a lawyer to some extent.”
The Federation of Tour Operators represents firms which account for 90 percent of overseas package holiday sales from the UK. Mr Cooper told TravelMole that one of his aims when he takes up his new position is to “get the members lobbying together more effectively.”
In his new role Mr Cooper will be based in Lewes, East Sussex. He currently serves on the board of the FTO and ABTA and is chairman of the FTO health and safety committee.
It has not yet been decided whether there will be a direct replacement for his job at MyTravel.
