Narrow Gauge Day on Colorado’s historic railroad
Colorado’s iconic Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad is kicking off summer in style on Narrow Gauge Day.
On Friday, May 2 from 11:00am-2:00pm, summer is officially here with a host of events including the annual free picnic and community celebration at the Durango depot.
The volunteer staff will be grilling hot dogs for members of the community.
Enjoy a hot dog, chips, cookies and soda while the Bar-D Wranglers will be performing on the lawn in front of the depot.
For visitors keen to learn more of its history, various railroad equipment will be on display including the Galloping Goose and select cars from the Presidential Train.
Galloping Goose #5 roundtrip rides to the Event Park will be available for booking.
Tours will be available and the free D&SNG Railroad Museum is open with new exhibits added regularly.
The model train is a big kid-pleaser.
Also, there is the Animas River Display featuring a 600 gallon aquarium currently stocked with rainbow trout.
