National Express offers hotels
National Express has started offering hotels to people booking coach trips.
The coach operator has reached a deal with OctopusTravel, the online accommodations agent which also provides hotels for easyJet and Eurostar passengers. Octopus will pay National Express an undisclosed fixed percentage commission per booking.
National Express customers link through to the Octopus website, which offers hotels in all the destinations served by the coach company. The deal also means agents at the National Express call centre have access to the Octopus inventory.
National Express product manager for UK short breaks, Mike Pegg, told TravelMole the sales advisors would actively sell accommodation to customers booking coach travel, and that those booking over the web would be prompted to book hotels.
Hotels can be booked online at www.nationalexpress.com/hotels.
National Express released its figures this week, and says trading in the first half of 2003 was in line with its expectations, with passengers numbers up by 5%. The operator has found success with a scheme it has been piloting that discounts fares to as little as £1 for off-peak journeys.
