National taxi review ‘not necessary’
The ABC says that the Australian Taxi Industry Association (ATIA) has rejected claims by the Transport and Tourism Forum that a national review of the taxi industry is needed.
The forum released a survey showing most of its member chief executive officers believe taxi services are inadequate and drivers are poorly trained.
ATIA spokesman Blair Davies says the survey is misleading.
“They got a small minority of CEOs that are members of their organisation and asked them their opinion,” he said.
“They didn’t go out and ask general tourists, they didn’t go and ask the general public and certainly they don’t seem to have gone out there and talked to cabbies.
“Our cabbies are experts in their local areas.”
