NCL to upgrade luxury island
Norwegian Cruise Line has announced big plans for its private island Great Stirrup Cay.
The 250-acre island in the Bahamas will receive a makeover with new dining venues, private villas and new attractions.
A 1,000-feet long zip line course will be built with two side-by-side zip lines, along with an underwater sculpture garden and an oceanfront boardwalk.
"We’ve had plans in place for a number of years," Norwegian president Andy Stuart said of the upgrade plans.
From summer 2017 Norwegian will offer an exclusive lagoon enclave of 22 villas ranging from studios to two-bedrooms.
Use of the private lagoon will be free to Haven and Suite guests and those who book spa treatments, while passes are available to purchase for other guests.
There will also be an exclusive lagoon restaurant.
Norwegian is also spending about $1 million on upgrading landscaping and building new restrooms and lockers.
