NCLH announces biggest ever cruise ship order
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings just made its largest ever order for new cruise ships.
It is ordering eight new ships across three brands – Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas.
Namesake brand NCL will receive half of the ships which are for delivery over a decade from 2026 to 2036.
There will be two new ships each for Oceania and Regent.
Norwegian CEO Harry Sommer announced the Fincantieri deal but hasn’t disclosed the total cost of the eight ships.
The new ships will allow NCLH to grow passenger capacity by 6% annually through 2028 and then 4% annually to 2036.
This is the company’s most ambitious forward planning strategy, Sommer said.
“We see the future and we think this is the right strategic direction to go. The slots are available and we wanted to secure them before the competition does,” Sommer said.
Sommer also revealed development for a $150 million two-ship pier at private destination Great Stirrup Cay.
