New app cuts cost of phoning abroad
A new app that claims to cut the cost of calling abroad on a mobile, or calling the UK from overseas, has been launched.
The GlobalCall247 app allows calls to and from over 100 countries from mobiles at low cost.
A one-minute call to Australia costs 3.5p; a one-minute call to Turkey costs 7p while a sixty-second call to Thailand costs 14p.
GlobalCall247 rates can vary, but the latest rates are shown in-app after the country being dialed has been selected. All rates can be found on the company’s website.
These are the standard prices for a pay monthly customer taken directly from the providers websites in April 2018 compared to the current GlobalCall247 rates.
Connection is through either cellular or wi-fi at either end, while the app keeps track of calls and costs.
Globalcall247 chairman Richard Elliot-Square said he developed the app because he couldn’t find a ‘fuss-free’ way of calling home or abroad.
He said: "You either get stung with eye-wateringly high call rates or you need to sign up for a daily call package you might not need.
"Calling apps require every recipient to have the app installed and the call quality can be terrible. The GlobalCall247 app addresses all these issues for travelers in a simple, affordable way using either local cellular networks or wi-fi."
