New budget airline for Florida
A new aviation start-up will begin low cost intra-state flights in Florida next month.
Florida Express Jet is set to take to the air with flights from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee beginning on March 20.
Fort Lauderdale travel firm Florida Express Jet Travel has contracted charter airline Swift Air to provide the service using Boeing 737-400 jets.
Swift Air is a FAA-registered airline that mainly runs private charters for college and pro sports teams including NBA franchises Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks.
Aircraft will feature new Florida Express livery and will have free Wi-Fi onboard.
Opening fares will be $69 one-way and unrestricted and from $99 for connecting flights between Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee via Orlando.
Florida Express Director of Sales Jeff Thompson said the new airline brand is primarily aimed at customers who usually travel between these destinations by road.
The company has yet to finalize agreements with the respective airports but has already highlighted other Florida destinations it plans to serve in the future including Jacksonville, Key West, Miami and Tampa.
