New chief for Etihad Airways
United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways has appointed its head of cargo and mail Robert W Strodel as its first chief executive.
Chairman Dr Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan said Strodel, an Austrian, has “contributed substantially” to the airline’s success since it launched in 2003 and was a natural choice.
“It is a testament to our strength that we have been able to make this appointment from within,” he said. “He has proven his ability to lead and his broad international experience make him the candidate of choice as we continue our expansion.”
Strodel worked for Lufthansa for many years, founded Lufthansa Cargo India in 1996 and in 2001 set up his own global aviation consultancy.
Etihad has daily departures from Gatwick to Abu Dhabi with ten weekly flights from Heathrow.
