New Chilean earthquake revives tsunami fears

Chileans were poised for a replay of February’s disastrous 8.8 earthquake after another quake shook its centre at the weekend.
This time it measured 7.1 and caused hundreds of people to flee to higher ground as they feared another tsunami. The last one eleven months ago killed more than 400 people and obliterated several coastal towns.
But Chile’s national emergency agency said no tsunami was on the way and although the quake cut off power supplies and communications, its effects had caused no deaths or injuries.
