New Colorado ski resort takes real skill

Friday, 17 Oct, 2005 0

Colorado’s 25th full-scale ski area is open for business, but only for experts.

Silverton Mountain in the San Juan chain has been open for four years but previously, it only offered guided tours. It is now open to the public.

But with seep runs approaching 55 degrees, skiers can’t turn back.

The facility only has one lift and almost nothing in the way of amenities.

The area reaches an average of 400 inches of snow, reported the Associated Press.

Silverton itself has a year-round population of only 400, a group that is outnumbered by the skiers.
