New eco friendly resort for Phillip Island
Australia’s very own stars of ‘Happy Feet’, Phillip Island’s legendary Fairy Penguins, will welcome a new neighbour when the All Seasons Eco Resort Phillip Island opens in May 2007. The eco-resort is the first of its kind on the island providing the perfect base for travelers who want to combine quality and comfort with environmental sensitivity.
The resort will offer a mix of accommodation including self contained studio spa as well as two and three bedroom villas. All 211 villas will be operational by the end of 2007.
Opening rates for the resort will start at $130.00 for spa studio, $160.00 for the two bedroom and $180.00 the three bedroom.
The villas are scattered within the 64 acre site surrounded by bicycle and bush walking tracks. Resort facilities will include a swimming pool, toddler pool, tennis courts, health club (with a fully equipped gymnasium, spa and sauna) and a kids club with playground. Guests will be well catered for at the resort Café. The resort will also host weddings, conferences and meetings for up to 150 delegates.
As the name suggests, all the villas and communal facilities have been designed with the environment and energy efficiency in mind. Wetlands areas will be established as part of storm water management. A fifteen acre conservation woodland area has been incorporated into the design to protect a remnant stand of mature gum trees of environmental significance.
“The resort’s care to manage the environment is clearly demonstrated by the reforestation of much of the land with indigenous species encouraging the return of native fauna and flora,” said newly appointed General Manager, Michael Ball.
Over 75,000 trees will be planted and each villa will be fitted out with energy efficient gas appliances and heating. A $750,000 water treatment system is also being installed ensuring substantial savings to the Phillip Island water infrastructure through recycling of water on site into toilets and irrigation.
Accor is not new to the management of eco-friendly properties, with the Novotel Sydney Olympic Park pioneering the concept of urban ‘green hotels’. It was the first hotel to be awarded the ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems certification, setting new benchmarks for the environmental operation of hotels.
Accor also operates hotels in fragile environments including Grand Mercure Mt Buller Chalet in Victoria’s unique Alpine region and the Novotel Lake Crackenback Resort in the Snowy Mountains which conducts a guided walks program in the Kosciusko National Park, adhering to the environmental ‘Leave No Trace’ principles. Accor has also recently opened Novotel Ningaloo Resort near Ningaloo Reef off the coast of Exmouth, one of the largest fringing coral reefs in the world and home to a diverse array of coral and marine life.
Accor has the largest network of hotels in Victoria. The All Seasons will be the group’s 25th hotel in the State.
