New hotel chain started by Schrager alumnus
A Houston-based hotel will be the prototype for a new upscale chain planned by Tim Miller, who spent more than 16 years working with Ian Schrager.
The 97-room Sam Houston Hotel will be turned into the Alden Houston Hotel.
Mr Miller said the name “Alden” was chosen for the new chain in part because it translates to “old friend.” Guests of the new chain will be greeted with open arms and a warm embrace, he said.
He said the new chain would involve small, intimate properties.
He added:
“Style isn’t something you buy. It’s something you live. As much as it is practical in form and function, the hotel you choose should also reflect your state of mind. Alden is designed to capture that.”
Mr Miller said the remodeling of the first Alden property will give Houston the type of world-class hotel found primarily in gateway cities such as New York.
After the launch of the Sam Houston, Mr Miller promises future acquisitions and expansion into various US markets.
The Schrager collection included Clift in San Francisco and the Royalton in New York City.
