New Maldives airport cuts transfer times

The journey time to the southern part of the Maldives has been halved will the launch of a flight from Male to the newly opened Kooddoo airport.

Domestic carrier Maldivian will fly direct twice a day to the airport in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, part of the greater Huvadhoo Atoll – one of the most southern-most atolls in the Maldives.

Clients can now reach the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa in a 45 minute flight compared to previously taking an hour long flight and an hour long speedboat ride.

Holidaymakers will also be able to travel more easily to five star The Residence, currently on soft-launch. The hotel is a five minute speedboat ride from Kooddoo airport.

Other resorts made more accessible are Robinson Club and Jumeirah Dhevanafushi and nine more resorts are currently under construction in the Huvadhoo Atoll.

Due to its southern and previously difficult-to-reach location, the surrounding reefs are untouched and many are never-before-visited, ensuring a diverse range of marine life for divers and snorkellers.
