New online-only cruise agent signs up 14 operators

Fourteen cruise lines have signed up to travel industry start-up Supercruises, which claims to be the first online-only booking engine.

The London-based OTA claims to have created a simple, user-friendly site to enable customers to book every aspect of their cruise online.

It offers 11,000 cruise packages in 30 regions, covering more than 1,000 ports.

Cruise lines featured include P&O, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Regent Seven Seas, Cunard and M&C.

The site includes how-to guides to cruising to assist first-time passengers, covering a range of topics from family cruising to shore excursions and onboard tipping policies.

Claiming it has ‘a mission to become the world’s most comprehensive and sophisticated online cruise booking engine that puts travellers back in control’, Supercruises has 10 separate search filters, which it says is more than twice as many as leading competitors.

Users can filter by destination, price, cruise line, ship size or style of cruise experience and compare up to four cruises side by side.

Part of the Arista Group of companies, Supercruises has full ABTA membership.

Chairman and chief executive Alexander Panagopulos said: "Cruise is one of the world’s fastest growing and most innovative holiday travel categories. We believe that modern consumers deserve the same ability to research, compare and find the best value cruise experience that they currently enjoy and expect when booking hotels or flights online.

"With the launch of Supercruises, we have created an independent service designed from scratch to allow both first-timers and cruise enthusiasts to select and book their dream cruise seamlessly and fully online, in just a few clicks.

"We are honoured to be working in partnership with the most famous and respected names in cruising to enable more people to experience the joys of cruise and find and book an unforgettable experience, designed just for the them."

Although the site allows customers to book without the need to speak to anyone, it does offer customer support via web chat and email. There is a dedicated UK customer helpline, but only for technical and after-sales support.

Parent company Arista operates an international shipping company and ran Royal Cruise Line from 1974 to 1995.
