New site gift registry said to be first of its kind
Heddi Cundle, who’s spent 18 years in PR and marketing in the travel and hospitality industry, was frustrated by the lack of online travel loyalty based on price being the focus. So she invented myTab, a travel gift registry that taps into a multi-billion dollar market.
“When it comes to searching and booking travel, we all waste days trying to get the best deal. I created myTab six years ago but had to wait until ecommerce and social media was mainstream so it would not be pioneering in both these along with our new travel approach,” she said.
She says her site is the only one of its kind to offer a full cycle of gifting, saving, planning and booking with a social “gifting” platform.
“Along with individual users, myTab’s group trip feature lets everyone plan together yet save and book separately. The gifted cash simply eliminates the core problem of price being paramount. Group travel is a $100 billion industry yet no one’s ever accommodated this market fully before,” she said.
Users proactively “gift” cash to friends or relatives or request cash for a trip.
Cundle says most of myTab’s audience is requesting travel cash for education/study abroad, honeymoons and birthday trips. In addition, many users are utilizing the group planning features. If the trip costs more than the user’s gifted/saved cash, the user pays the difference at the site.
“We also have a feature called “Match myCash, where we match up the user’s saved or gifted funds to their wish trip. With this feature, we have incredible statistics on users and their traveling friends, never achieved before. From this, we can negotiate with suppliers so the user gets the best deal and the suppliers get to push sales at otherwise slow times. This has never been done before and is a game-changer in the industry,” she said.
The site is free for users. It makes money through affiliated partner revenues from Expedia, suppliers promoting for Match myCash & selling accumulated statistics, Cundle said.
