New strike threat for Italy
Chaos could hit Italy’s transport system next week if airline, railway and ferry workers go ahead with threatened wildcat strikes. Alitalia’s flights to and from Rome airport will be hit on Tuesday, March 2, as technical staff plan to walk out from 10.00 to 14.00. This will be followed by a general air transport strike on Friday, March 5 with Alitalia staff walking out from 10.00 to 18.00 and other airline staff striking from 12.30 to 16.30. The strikes could cause major disruption to all flights between the UK and Italy. Holidaymakers taking short breaks will be amongst the worst hit by the strikes, particularly anyone flying out next Friday. Further disruption will be caused on Sunday, March 7 when all rail and ferry workers are planning to walk out from 10.00 to 18.00, which could lead to traffic jams as more locals take to the roads, causing delays for British skiers travelling between airports and resorts.
