New system to compare rail and air rates
Corporate online travel system GetThere is launching a combined air and rail availability display for business and travel management companies.
The system, which will be unveiled at the Business Travel Show, will enable users to compare European rail prices on the same screen as the route by air.
GetThere, owned by Sabre, explained that users can request availability for a journey served by SNCF, Eurostar and European networks Thalys or Lyria with the results appearing alongside the availability and fares for flights.
It is expected to be fully rolled out during February for any corporation or TMC that holds an SNCF licence or Rail Europe agreement.
The same capability will be available on GetThere’s Lower Fare Search pricing display – for users who make their booking according to cost – by the end of March.
GetThere and Sabre corporate travel vice president Floyd Widener said: “This is true multi-model capability. The system now displays every transport option for each leg of a journey, and all bookings are fully integrated with the passenger name record, the itinerary and back office reporting.”
The move follows the introduction in December of pan-European rail bookings on French operator SNCF.
