New tourism website puts Portsmouth on the map
The launch of a new tourism website for Portsmouth includes a state of the art destination management system (DMS) which combines and supports all tourism related marketing and business activity in the city.
Visitportsmouth.co.uk has been made possible by the city council working with Tourism South East and New Mind – the internet company behind the visitliverpool.com, visitbristol.co.uk, and visitbath.co.uk websites, which are among the highest performing of their kind for both visitor numbers and income generation. In a typical month these destination web sites attract more than a million users and visitportsmouth will be aiming to achieve similar levels of interest.
The new DMS and integrated web site enables detailed information to be created on the full range of tourism providers, with each profile included on both the visitportsmouth and visitsoutheastengland websites as well as links to Englandnet.
Tourism and Visitor Services Manager Drusilla Moody said: “The DMS allows us to give each attraction its own profile, providing Portsmouth with national and international marketing opportunities for local attractions, events, restaurants and facilities.
“DMS will also help us carry out ‘smarter’ marketing in future and give Portsmouth more regional and national prominence as an attractive destination for visitors.”
The DMS system went live on Monday 11 February: www.visitportsmouth.co.uk
