New US coast to coast business shuttle
A New England air charter company, which normally carries rock groups and sports teams, is launching flights between New York and Los Angeles.
US newspapers have reported that DB Air Ltd will offer all-business class seats between the major east and west coast cities. Flights will operate five days a week from JFK to Burbank Airport near LA from 1 December 2002. It already operates a schedule service from JFK to St Kitts, but tickets have sold out until January 2003.
All-business class airlines have had limited success in the US in the past. The Dallas-based Legend Airlines, which operated flights from Dallas Fort Worth to LA, New York, and Washington, went bust in 2000. Earlier ventures such as MGM Grand Air, were also short-lived. It offered services between New York, LA and Las Vegas . However, Lufthansa’s recently launched international business service between Frankfurt and Newark has so far been a success.
DB Air flights will be operated by Miami Air International. The two Boeing 727-700 aircraft have 48 first-class sleeper seats with DVD players, a bar, conference table, dataports and fax machine.
According to reports, fares will be about $1,800 one-way, and tickets will be sold through agents in New York and LA.
