New visa announcement seen as boost to Cayman tourism
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism has welcomed the announcement by the country’s Department of Immigration that nationals of 12 European countries who previously required visas to enter the Cayman Islands no longer do so.
The new ruling applies to those holding passports from Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Malta, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania.
Don McDougall, regional manager for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, Europe, says that the announcement is a boost for the Caribbean country: “Not only is this good news for those EU passport holders residing in this country that would previously have required a visa, but it is also good news for the development of our overseas European markets generally.
"We have worked hard to achieve a small but steady growth from a number of these countries, and some of operators, such as Cayman Diving Adventures in the Czech Republic, have in turn demonstrated a terrific commitment to build leisure business to Cayman from their regions. This news and will encourage and facilitate future promotional activity between the Department of Tourism and these operators to build market share.”
