Short breaks specialist Highlife is to operate as a standalone business after sharing an operations, sales and marketing team with Thistle Hotels for 25 years.

A dedicated team has been hired by the operator, highlighting holding company BIL’s ambition to take the brand to the top of the short breaks market in the UK and abroad.

Highlife is developing a website which will enable travel agents to build and price bespoke packages and manage their supplier account.

Managing director Donna Taylor said: “The time has come for Highlife to step out as a standalone company. Appetite for inspirational short breaks has never been so strong and we are determined to give consumers everything they want. My team and I will now report directly into BIL.”

She added: “2006 is the most important year in Highlife’s history. We’re launching a new brochure and website as well as delivering more inspirational breaks than ever before.”

Highlife Breaks was established 25 years ago by Thistle Hotels to allow the company to distribute to the retail travel trade. It promotes a number of hotel chains including Hilton, Thistle, Corus, Swallow, Jury’s, Express by Holiday Inn and Britannia as well as leading independent hotels in the UK and Ireland

The operator offers more than 400 hotels across the UK and added 15,000 properties worldwide hotels to its portfolio.

The operator was also re-branded with a new look brochure, which focused less on the ‘hotel directory’ format and more towards a destination-led style, with location feature pages and an inspirational look and feel.
