New York City FC inks big Etihad Airways sponsorship deal
New Major League Soccer franchise New York City FC has teamed up with Etihad Airways for a major sponsorship deal.
The Abu Dhabi based carrier will become the team’s principle sponsor and will have its logo on all of the team’s game jerseys.
The five-year partnership is New York City FC’s largest sponsorship agreement so far and will see Etihad Airways’ branding featured prominently on game days at the Yankee Stadium, and on its digital platforms.
NYC FC chief business officer Tim Pernetti and James Hogan, president and CEO of Etihad Airways announced the partnership alongside star signing, Spanish striker David Villa.
"This is a milestone day for New York City Football Club," Pernetti said.
"Our first home jersey is a huge part of our identity and we are proud that our kit and our team will be so strongly associated with a partner of the caliber of Etihad Airways."
The NYC FC tie-up with Etihad was widely expected as the airline is the primary sponsor of parent club Manchester City, the current English Premier League champions.
The New York City partnership also strengthens Etihad Airways’ links with US soccer following its agreement earlier this year to become the official airline partner of MLS.
NYC FC will kick off their maiden MLS season next year at the Yankee Stadium.
