New York sells itself to repeat visitors
Agents are getting tips on how to sell New York to third, fourth and fifth time visitors as the destination looks to break records in 2014.
Tourism group, NYC & Company, is on a sales mission to the UK, briefing 150 agents in London, Birmingham and Peterborough on news and developments across the New York’s five boroughs.
Last year, the destination attracted a record 54.3 million visitors while in 2014 it is expected to welcome more than 55 million visitors – the target set for 2015.
The UK in New York’s number one overseas market.
With the UK being New York’s number one overseas market, NYC & Co said their activity was trade focused, with agents being better at selling the destination to repeat visitors.
Reginald Charlot said: "We’re fortunate that people know what New York’s about. The trade can sell the product to the client much better so we look to educate them on what’s new.
"New York is constantly changing and there’s interest in different parts of the city, not just ‘Down Town’."
Last month the 9/11 Memorial museum opened in New York and the One World Observatory on top of the One World Trade Center is due to open in Spring 2015.
The New York Wheel – the world’s largest ferris wheel – and shoppers’ paradise Empire Outlets will open on Staten Island in 2016.
Hotel development will see the city reach 104,000 beds by the end of 2014.
