Nine killed in Australian bush fires
Massive bush fires affecting the state of South Australia have killed at least nine people including four children. Reports say the fires, which have swept through the Eyre Peninsula, have destroyed an area nearly the size of greater London, with the outer suburbs of the city of Adelaide also being affected. According to the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, at least three more people remain unaccounted for, and some 100 people are believed to have been injured. Meanwhile, in California, parts of the state are being ravaged by flooding after days of torrential rain. Several people are known to have died in landslides and flood waters, with officials saying at least 10 people have been killed by the effects of the storms. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
