Nineteen dead in Lake Victoria plane crash
Nineteen people have been killed after a plane crashed into Lake Victoria, Tanzania.
The Precision Air flight was carrying 43 passengers and crew.
The flight had departed Dar es Salaam bound for Bukoba Airport and crash landed in Lake Victoria.
Bukoba Airport is on the lake’s shore.
The plane was mostly submerged with only the tail fin above the water.
Precision Air is Tanzania’s largest private airline.
Emergency services said 24 survivors had been accounted for.
The cause of the crash is unclear, but media reported heavy storms in the area at the time.
“Precision Air extends its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the passengers and crew involved in this tragic accident,” the airline said.
