North American travelers: staying home for the holidays.
A surprising majority of would-be travelers in a recent survey said they planned to stay home for the upcoming holidays.
Fifty-eight percent of more than 1,500 Trip Advisor travelers planned to stay home for Thanksgiving, while another 51% planned to go nowhere for Christmas.
New Year’s Eve was even less popular as a travel destination. More than 71% had no plans to go anywhere.
The majority of those planning to travel are not flying but instead are planning car trips.
“It seems there will be less traffic at the airports this holiday season, as 49% of respondents intend to avoid flying,” the survey found.
When asked who the travelers were going to see, friends came first followed by in-laws and parents.
There were various answers when asked what they were escaping if they did travel, but 8% admitted that they would most like to get away from their spouses.
