North Cyprus tourism woos tour operators

North Cyprus tourism chiefs are trying to woo UK tour operators with the offer of cash incentives for passenger bookings.

The North Cyprus Tourism Centre is targeting small, niche and large operators to feature the destination with the offer of support finding hotels, flights and local agents.

In return, the centre claims operators can earn up to 130 euros per passenger (around £103) – about 40-60 euros per passenger, a further 20 euros marketing budget per person and more incentives for multi-centre or winter packages.

North Cyprus is also hoping to attract charter flights and international hotel chains with tourism co-ordinator, Kadir Doruhan saying he expects larger hotel chains to begin building within the next couple of years.

Currently all flights from the UK touchdown in Turkey en route to North Cyprus.

Tourism co-ordinator, Kadir Doruhan who was keen to distance tourism from politics, said North Cyprus offers one of the most untapped areas in Europe and being out of the Eurozone, is also value for money.

He said: "The incentive programme is for any tour operator that is interested. North Cyprus has hardly been seen by Europeans and being outside the Eurozone makes it very cost effective.

"There are all types of accommodation available from eco tourism villages to five star hotels."
