North East England showcases region to Australia/NZ
SYDNEY – North East England has launched a major campaign to encourage Australians to discover the heritage and landscape of the region in 2009.
Led by regional development agency One North East, the campaign has kicked off with a new TV advert, shown across the Fox network.
The TV advert encourages visitors to explore North East England and features aerial shots of the North East’s coast and countryside, along with footage of the region’s dining and shopping destinations.
Popular North East attractions such as Bamburgh Castle, the Cheviot Hills, Boulby Cliffs, Durham City, Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle/Gateshead and The Angel of the North all make an appearance.
The North East England Visitor Survey Report 2008 found that tourists from Australia now top the list of international visitors, with a combined total of 35 percent alongside visitors from New Zealand.
Stacy Hall, director of communications and tourism at One North East, said the TV advert is part of One North East’s ongoing marketing and PR campaign in Australia following the launch of a daily Emirates flight to North East England (Newcastle).
The premiere of the TV advert has also launched a competition for Australians and New Zealanders, giving them the chance to visit North East England.
The prize includes two economy flights flying Emirates, nine days car hire as well as accommodation, including Redworth Hall and Matfen Hall.
The total prize value is $13,000 and can be entered online at
