Norwegian Getaway heading to Rio for 2016 Olympics
The 145,000 ton Norwegian Getaway will dock in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympic Games in 2016.
It will add almost 2,000 rooms to Rio’s capacity during the Games, and will be moored close to the famous Maracana Stadium and the Sambodromo.
The Sambodromo is the home of the carnival parade and will become a venue for Olympic archery events.
It follows the ship’s appearance as a floating hotel last year during Super Bowl while the smaller Norwegian Jade ship docked at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The deployment was announced by a Rio 2016 official during the recent General Assembly of the Pan American Sports Organization held in Mexico.
Rio officials also said a list of international agents authorized to sell Olympics tickets will be announced in March.
